Ever had one of those weeks where everything that could go wrong does? That was me this week.
I discovered that my Tasks notifications had somehow mysteriously disabled themselves, and the consequences were a disaster. I forgot the musical instrument, the packed lunch, the after-school club clothes, and worst of all, today was a non-uniform day. So, my daughter went to school in uniform, and I had to rush up to bring her a change of clothes.
It made me realise just how much I rely on notifications, those little extra nudges that keep me from forgetting things. They are essential to my daily life. If it’s not in my calendar, it doesn’t exist. If I’m not reminded multiple times, I’m likely to forget.
Another tech fail that made my life hell was when we switched our shared family calendar to a different main account. Instead of keeping all events linked to our individual diaries, it deleted every single appointment. Months of dentist appointments, hospital visits, and school events, gone. No record. We scrambled for months trying to piece things back together. It was awful.
And I know I’m not alone. Other parents have shared similar experiences. One told me her entire personal diary just got wiped one day. Since then, she has stuck with a paper diary because she doesn’t trust tech anymore.
I honestly cannot wait until Kiki is ready because I need something to keep me on track every day. This week has proven that more than ever.
Tech should be trustworthy and reliable. We need it, we use it, and we depend on it. That’s exactly why I’m creating Kiki, to make sure no parent has to deal with this chaos again.
And if you’re wondering, I did try fixing the notifications, turned them all back on, but it still didn’t work. So, I just uninstalled the Tasks app and switched to the built-in Calendar Tasks instead. Work’s fine now, thankfully!
